In coordination with Embry Riddle Aeronautical University (ERAU) and the State of Florida’s Science Technology Engineering and Math (STEM) initiatives, students at Zephyrhills High School can now take classes for college (dual enrollment) or high school credit in AS 120: Aviation Science (3 college credits), AS 220: Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) (3 college credits), and AT 1: Aviation Technology (high school credit).  All three courses are instructed on ZHS campus by Mr. Sam Harris, Embry Riddle University Adjunct Professor, and offer a broad-based aviation orientation in flight-related areas and are taught in a specialized classroom that is equipped with high-fidelity flight simulators.  The UAS course also employs the use of smaller, but high-fidelity working UAS’.  Aviation-based field trips are also planned into any of these courses.

Any of these three course assist in preparing the student who is interested in a technical (aviation or non-aviation related) college major and/or career field.  Each course will include introductions in basic physics, engineering, and aerospace related sciences types of subject matter.  Students should be also advised that these courses are academically and professionally demanding and require a high degree of class participation and study in preparation of exams and quizzes.

Students applying for any of these courses require approval from Ms. Morris, Assistant Principal supervising the Aerospace Academy. Additionally students applying for AS 120 or AS 220 must also meet the academic criteria to be accepted in Embry Riddle University.
