Much of the following information about Advanced Placement is provided at CollegeBoard.com. Advanced Placement courses provide a unique learning experience that will help your child succeed in college. Through AP's college-level courses and exams, your child can earn college credit and stand out in the admission process. In AP classrooms, the focus is not on memorizing facts and figures. Instead they will engage in intense discussions, solve problems collaboratively, and learn to write clearly and persuasively. AP courses can help you child acquire the skills and habits they will need to be successful in college. Students will improve their writing skills, sharpen their problem-solving abilities, and develop time management skills, discipline, and study habits. More than 90 percent of four-year colleges in the United States and colleges in more than 60 other countries give students credit, advanced placement or both on the basis of AP Exam scores. By entering college with AP credits, students have the time to move into upper level courses, pursue a double-major or study abroad. If you are interested in the Advanced Placement program at ZHS, your child should make an appointment with their Guidance Counselor to discuss the options. Additional information can be gathered from our AP teachers and AP students. Bulldog University (BU) is a special designation given to our Advanced Placement program at ZHS. It is the partnership between ZHS & College Boards. Mike Pellegrino, one of our AP teacher’s describes Bulldog University as “part of the ZHS family designed specifically to give students a taste of higher education so that they'll be better prepared for life in the college/university system. It's also a way for these students to be a part of an organization that acknowledges their academic excellence, which they've worked so hard to achieve.”
